How to get your credit reports and scores for free

Are you curious about your credit score? Or maybe you want to see your credit report but don't know how. Wonder no more! In this blog post, we'll show you how to get your credit reports and scores for free. So read on for everything you need to know about getting your free credit reports and scores.

Federal law allows you to get a free copy of your credit report every 12 months from each of the three nationwide credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. But since the COVID-19 pandemic, the 3 credit bureaus are still offering free weekly online credit reports. This will help you ensure that your credit report is accurate and up-to-date and you can also take steps to improve your credit report if necessary.

Request your free credit reports from Annual Credit Report

All you need to do is head over to annualcreditreport.com and from there you'll be able to order your free credit reports. Once you're on the website, simply click on "Request your free credit reports". Next, you’ll fill out a form with your personal information, pick the reports you want, answer a few security questions and that’s it! Your report will be generated and you can view it online. You’ll repeat this step for each credit report. Keep in mind, you cannot get scores from annualcreditreport.com, only your credit report information.

Get your free credit scores from Credit Karma and Experian

If you want to see your credit scores, you can check them for free on creditkarma.com. This is a reputable website that will show you your scores and give you insights into what’s impacting your scores. You will be able to get your TransUnion and Equifax credit reports and your Vantage scores.

Now, if you want to get your Experian credit score, you can go to Experian.com, which provides your FICO 8 score. Just click “Let’s Get Started” on the homepage, fill out the form, and once your account is created, you’ll be able to see your report and score. Experian does offer some additional features for a fee if that’s something you are interested in, but you are not required to sign up for anything beyond the free credit report and score.
